June 13 (Fri.) we return to the excellent acoustics of Ginza's Oji Hall, where the Tokyo Sinfonia sounds at its best, for what many feel is our most important concert of the year. The programme includes the string orchestra version of the Haffner Serenade, K. 250, one of the most neglected of Mozart's truly magnificent works, and the string orchestra version of his Quintet for Strings in D Major, K.593, a work which is simply sublime.
The members of the Tokyo Sinfonia and I are greatly excited about this, our most important little concert series. The legions of fans who like Mozart's music will love this. Those who like the sensuous sound of the strings will love this. Anyone who feels the power of music (whether he understands it or not) will love this. And string aficionados everywhere will be highly curious about this premiere performance, an historic event. We all hope you can be there with us!
Haffner Serenade for Strings, K.250 - Violin soloist, Akio Iso
Symphony for Strings in D Major, from KV 593 (world premiere)
Our March Symphonies for Strings champagne concert drew a wonderful audience to hear the Tokyo Sinfonia play three great (and neglected) works of Beethoven. The hall was filled to 85% of capacity. Over post-concert champagne (and juice), different people praised different pieces, each of the three works being someone’s favourite. That's what I like. In addition to the critical praise, platinum sponsor Tokyo British Clinic, project grant sponsor Minato-ku and operations grant sponsor Rohm Music Foundation all have shown how much they believe in the worth of this series. Their support makes these concerts possible. That too is what I like.
Tickets: Single tickets ¥6,000; 2 or more ¥5,500 each; 4-concert subscriptions ¥20,000 are available through the Tokyo Sinfonia website, through our office in Akasaka, or through the Oji Hall ticket centre in Ginza.
